Abstract

France is a secular country with many immigrants, and among them come from Maghreb countries. As a young generation and living in French territory, the Maghreb country immigrants must also attend school. With different clothes with students in common, Muslim students wear voile islamique. It raised a problem because it relates to the government's efforts to realize national integration and secular principles. Therefore, the government passed the Law on March 15, 2004, prohibiting school students, from elementary to high school, wearing symbols/clothes that show their religious identity/belief in the school environment. The problem arises because they think that wearing voile islamique in public places, including at school, is an obligation based on their religious beliefs and laws. Responding to this situation, the Muslim students did voile islamique before entering the school grounds and putting it on again after leaving the school grounds. This research concern to reveal how they think about the law, as people who are directly affected. This study aimed to find the voile islamique pattern in the descendants of Magribi immigrants in Paris. This research used an ethnographic method with a religious anthropolinguistic approach.
